Nine people were killed when a Learjet 60 private jet crashed in a residential area of Palm Beach County, South Florida. U.S. authorities reported the crash, specifying that all the victims were aboard the aircraft, which took off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed for the Bahamas.
According to data from the tracking website Ads-B Exchange, the plane lost approximately 8.230 feet of altitude in just one minute, shortly before the tracking signal was lost. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
“Today’s plane crash in Palm Beach County, Florida, is a terrible tragedy,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
The plane crashed approximately 6,4 miles south of West Palm Beach Airport, recently renamed in honor of President Donald Trump. The tycoon was in the same location today, where his Mar-a-Lago residence is located, but had left the airport aboard Air Force One about an hour before the crash.
