(Adnkronos) –
Bad news for Donald Trump two days before the November 3 midterm elections. Democrats hold a seven-point lead over Republicans in the race for control of Congress, while the president's disapproval rating reaches a record high of 60%, according to a new NBC News national poll conducted between October 28 and 30.
Fifty-two percent of registered voters favor a Democratic-controlled Congress, compared to 45 percent who favor Republicans and 3 percent who are undecided.
The Democratic lead has increased by two points since the September poll and rises to 21 points among independents. Trump's approval rating stands at 40%, while 64% of respondents believe the president has not met expectations, compared to 34% who rated him positively. Seventy percent of voters believe the direction the country is taking is the wrong one, nine points more than a year ago, and approximately two-thirds are calling for a change in the administration's policies.
The poll also highlights widespread economic dissatisfaction: approximately three out of four voters say they are dissatisfied with the country's situation and, for the first time in thirty years of NBC surveys, the percentage of those who are dissatisfied with their financial conditions (51%) exceeds that of those who are satisfied (49%).
Inflation and the cost of living remain the main concerns. Democrats hold a one-point advantage on inflation management, while Republicans maintain a two-point advantage on the economy and a five-point advantage on corruption. Despite the advantage in voting intentions, only 29% of respondents have a positive view of the Democratic Party, compared to 38% for the Republican Party.
Electoral mobilization is also high: 70% rate their interest in voting at a 9 or 10 out of 10, with Democrats ahead by 12 points among the most engaged voters. Among Republicans, Trump's approval rating reaches 93% among the MAGA camp, but drops to 54% among those who don't identify with the movement.
