(Adnkronos) – "This sculpture, a bit atypical because I'm a painter and not a sculptor, represents, in my opinion, the first true portrait of artificial intelligence. We know, in fact, that it could take the form of any person, existing or invented. The only thing that perhaps truly characterizes it is the imprinting it received from the beginning, represented by the six-fingered error.

I wanted to capture a meta-portrait of artificial intelligence in time. Just as the police identify "criminals" based on certain characteristics, "like a scar on the forehead, we must be able to identify artificial intelligence: unable to attribute a specific face to it, we identify it with this six-fingered hand, the famous AI-generated content bug."

Paolo Troilo, the artist who created the six-fingered hand symbolizing Intersections 2026, Italy's largest event dedicated to marketing, communications, creativity, and technology, currently underway at the Allianz MiCo in Milan, explains.

"The work is based on three paintings already presented at my exhibition at the Palazzo Reale in Milan this year. It is the result of an enlargement of a life-size sculpture I modeled, of a hand that was scanned and then made almost two and a half meters tall.

It's the sculpture of a hand with the thumb up, the famous like – he explains – but with six fingers, because it's a like that can lead us to question how much we can believe in AI, especially when it comes to psychological, philosophical and more personal fields."

"If I could talk to artificial intelligence today and it could truly understand me, and not just formulate a response, I'd probably say, 'Keep this different way of being,'" he continues. "AI is a tool. As an artist, I don't feel any kind of concern, because artificial intelligence isn't influenced by a day, an argument, worrying about a child, a beautiful event, or the slamming of a pinky, which are usually the things that change an artist's day. AI will never have a physical presence, so it's a good thing it's used as a tool."
