The journalist himself explained the significance of the decision in a post on social media, in which he recounted the experiences that shaped his professional career . Ranucci recalled his relationship with Roberto Morrione, the longtime director of RaiNews24, whom he credited with playing a key role in his development. Among the works he completed during those years, he cited investigations into depleted uranium projectiles, the Italian mission in Nasiriyah, and the discovery of an interview with Paolo Borsellino, recorded in 1992, just days before the Capaci massacre.
He also retraced the story of the white phosphorus used in Fallujah, an investigation carried out between 2004 and 2005 that attracted international attention and contributed to Milena Gabanelli's subsequent call to Report.
In saying goodbye to the show, he acknowledged the work he had done over the course of approximately five hundred episodes, reiterating his commitment to investigative journalism.
" I'm coming back with a smile that no injustice will ever take away from me ," he wrote, revealing his desire to embrace change without abandoning his previous path.
The legal proceedings, however, are not yet concluded . The Rome Labor Court rejected his urgent appeal requesting reinstatement as head of Report, but the dispute will continue on the merits. At the same time, Ranucci has appealed the disciplinary suspension of ten days without pay imposed by RAI, contesting the charges raised by the company. These are two separate proceedings, which remain separate from his choice of new professional position.

An important chapter in Sigfrido Ranucci's television career has come to a close. After twenty years at the helm of Report, he is definitively leaving to take up a new role within Rai . The journalist has informed the company of his decision to remain at RaiNews24 , where he will serve as deputy editor ad personam, focusing on in-depth reporting . This chosen destination was one of three alternatives put forward by Viale Mazzini management after his departure from the Rai3 program.
The other options included a transfer to Tg3, working under the editor, or a position as a correspondent from the Cairo office. Ranucci opted for the first option, thus returning to a publishing reality that he helped to understand and develop in the early years of his career . He had in fact joined the editorial staff of RaiNews24 in 1999 , the year the news program was founded, becoming a special correspondent in 2001. He remained there until 2006 , when he began his collaboration with Report, first as a writer and then as the face of the program. The new role does not include, at least according to journalistic reports, a video presentation: his contribution will be focused on the in-depth columns of the all-news network.
