Protests and supermarket raids between Bergamo and Treviglio: minors reported

Bergamo and Treviglio, children wore masks during protests: supermarket raids and investigations into thefts and damage.

The student protests that engulfed Bergamo and Treviglio today, Monday, October 19, were accompanied by incidents of theft and damage. As hundreds of young people poured into the streets, law enforcement intervened to manage tensions and identify several minors. Of particular concern are the raids on supermarkets, where masked youths reportedly stole groceries.

The incidents are part of a climate of unrest that already emerged during Saturday's demonstration in the Bergamo capital.

Treviglio: Two minors charged after a Coop store was attacked during protests.

In Treviglio, where around a thousand students took part in the demonstration near the Oberdan Institute and other schools in the city, the morning was marked by a theft at the Coop supermarket.

As reported by Bergamo News , a group of young people entered the store, taking several food items before leaving. The police identified one of the alleged perpetrators , took him to the police station, and reported him. A second youth was reported for throwing stones at a car, damaging it.

To clarify the circumstances of the supermarket raid and quantify the value of the stolen goods, surveillance camera footage will be examined .

The protest, promoted through messages shared on social media, had not been coordinated with the authorities and required a significant deployment of law enforcement. Smoke bombs were lit and firecrackers were thrown in the Oberdan square , while the marchers moved through the city streets.

Bergamo, thirty minors identified: checks carried out after the riots

Today's protest also spread to the capital , where about a hundred youths gathered around 8:30 a.m. near the station, before heading toward Porta Nuova. During the march, a firecracker was reported to have exploded and a stone was thrown at the officers following the protesters. The presence of state police, carabinieri, local police, and the Guardia di Finanza allowed the groups' movements to be monitored.

As Bergamo News highlighted, a total of 30 minors were identified at the end of the investigation : 25 by the State Police, 23 of whom were escorted to the police station, and another five by the Carabinieri. Among those identified were also young people who had taken part in Saturday's demonstration, which resulted in arrests and charges. Investigations are continuing to reconstruct the various incidents, including the damage and thefts reported during the protests. Responsibilities will need to be assessed individually , distinguishing the conduct alleged against some youths from the participation of other students in the demonstrations.
