(Adnkronos) –
The return to daylight saving time is almost upon us. On the night between Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th, at 3:00 AM, clocks will move back one hour, returning to 2:00 AM. This means there will be an extra hour of daylight in the morning, while the hours of darkness will be longer during the day. The time change will therefore allow us to sleep an extra hour because the sun will set earlier.
What to do? It's important to remember that digital devices like smartphones, smartwatches, PCs, and tablets update automatically, while analog devices like watches must be changed manually.
The switch from daylight saving time to standard time primarily means having fewer hours of daylight during the day, typical of the autumn and winter months.
Sunset is in fact brought forward, so there is more light in the first part of the day and darker evenings.
For many people, the time change can impact their daily routines, their commute, and their children's after-school activities. The effects are primarily related to light perception and the adjustment of sleep patterns, so it usually takes a few days to get used to the new time and rhythm.
The switch from solar time to daylight saving time and vice versa was introduced in Italy in 1966.
For several years, debate has been raging about the possible abolition of this custom, following discussions at the European level as early as 2018. However, the EU proposal has stalled and no conclusion has been reached. In 2026, the Chamber of Deputies also launched a fact-finding investigation into the possibility of making daylight saving time permanent, which is still ongoing.
