The vehicle, belonging to the Dutch tour operator Oad , was carrying 48 people and overturned on its side after leaving the roadway. According to initial information gathered by Swiss media, the accident occurred around 4:45 PM : the bus, headed from Zernez to Susch, struck a guardrail before going off the road and overturning in a field.
The area was immediately cordoned off to allow for the deployment of a massive emergency response force. Firefighters, ambulances, and five helicopters arrived on the scene , while images released by local media show the bus lying on its side below road level and numerous rescuers engaged in the operation.
