The funeral of Andrea Moretti , the 22-year-old who died after a fall at the Colosseum, drew over a thousand people to Tottea, in the province of Teramo. While family and the community grieved, investigations into the circumstances of the workplace accident continue.
Andrea Moretti's accident at the Colosseum and the safety checks
Meanwhile, investigations into the death of the young worker, who fell while working on the Colosseum's new lighting system , are continuing . The autopsy revealed multiple injuries and fractures . Toxicology tests, called mandatory tests, are also planned to determine whether alcohol or narcotics were present in his blood before the accident.
The images from the video surveillance cameras, examined by the Carabinieri of the Roma Centro Company, reportedly showed that a colleague responsible for ensuring the 22-year-old's safety was not present at the time of the fall.
As reported by TGR Lazio , the young man was wearing a harness , which initial checks revealed was in order. The rope, however, was apparently not attached : it apparently got caught on the wall for a few seconds before falling to the ground.
Furthermore, from the images, Andrea does not appear to be connected to the ring on the wall via his carabiner.
A technical report on the condition of the equipment used is pending . Investigators will also need to clarify one further aspect: the 22-year-old appears to be classified as a laborer and not a skilled worker , a circumstance that has prompted investigations into the qualifications and skills required to perform work on walls of that height. The investigation will therefore need to determine, beyond his professional classification, whether Andrea possessed the required skills for the work he was performing.
Andrea Moretti's death at the Colosseum: crowds at the funeral and mourning throughout the city.
A crowd of over a thousand people gathered today in Tottea , a hamlet of Crognaleto , in the province of Teramo, to pay their last respects to Andrea Moretti , the 22-year-old who died on September 23 after falling approximately ten meters while working inside the Colosseum . The funeral was held near the Lourdes Grotto , where a marquee was set up to accommodate the large number of attendees, given the impossibility of using the small local church. The municipality has declared a day of mourning for the day of the funeral.

The mayor of Crognaleto, Orlando Persia, also took part in the ceremony . The celebration was officiated by Monsignor Gianfranco De Luca , Bishop Emeritus of Termoli-Larino, on behalf of the Bishop of Teramo-Atri, Monsignor Lorenzo Leuzzi.
During the service, the young man's friends donated an olive tree , which will be planted in the church garden. At the end, amid the release of white balloons and prolonged applause, the body was accompanied away. The family, including his mother Silvana, his father Fabrizio, and his sisters Laura, Sara, and Katia, asked for maximum confidentiality.
