"No one is prepared to deal with the loss of a child." So said Massimo Minghetti, father of Riccardo, one of the victims of the Crans-Montana fire, attending an evening hosted by Pierluigi Diaco on 'Spazio 900' to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Rome's Cannizzaro High School, with students, alumni, and teachers from the school where Riccardo was a student.
“For us,” she said in a passage of her touching testimony, “Riccardo is still here, but in a different way.”
"Riccardo was a positive guy. Anyone who knew him knows perfectly well that he had this infectious smile, he conveyed positivity," Massimo Minghetti added during the evening, which was an opportunity to remember some aspects of his son.
He wanted to be a criminal lawyer: "He said, 'With my dialectic, I'll win every case,'" his father said, also describing him as a music enthusiast: "We often talked and went to concerts together; there was an interaction between completely different generations." The evening organized by the high school, according to the boy's father, was "a wonderful sign."
And Minghetti also wanted to give credit to the young people: “From the beginning, Riccardo was not remembered for the event but for how he lived: this is a wonderful thing.”
"We constantly receive testimonials and messages that help us look forward," he continued. "It makes me think that, after this event, we at home became like Ulysses and began to have to overcome obstacles and trials every day, to question ourselves," he continued. The boy's father recalled that there was "an outpouring of solidarity, right from the beginning when we were in Crans, starting with the Italian government and all the authorities."
"I'd like to address the kids: keep smiling like Riccardo did, keep dreaming, keep cultivating your passions because you are the future of the world. This is the way forward," said Massimo Minghetti. During the evening, it was announced that February 2nd will be celebrated annually as a "Day of Remembrance" to remember Riccardo and the other former students who are no longer with us. Furthermore, the high school will award Riccardo a posthumous diploma, which will be presented to his parents at the end of the school year, when the class he was in graduates.
