(Adnkronos) – Air traffic is reduced across Italy today, Friday, October 16, due to anomalies—which emerged last night—"on the geographic data transmission network supporting air traffic control services across the entire national territory." This was announced by ENAV, which explained that there is a "temporary reduction in aircraft management capacity in Italian airspace."
The Authority also explains that it has guaranteed – thanks to the activation of the foreseen contingency systems – "regular air traffic management until 6:00 this morning, without any reduction in operational capacity."
Starting at 6:00 a.m., "in light of the progressive increase in air traffic and the persistence of anomalies, to continue to guarantee maximum safety of operations, flow regulation measures have been introduced, resulting in a temporary reduction in aircraft management capacity in Italian airspace."
"The technical checks, still underway, have identified the source of the anomalies in the data transmission network," the Authority assures, explaining that it is working "to identify the causes and restore full system operation."
In any case, Enav "excludes that the anomalies are attributable to malicious activity".
