(Adnkronos) – A 24-hour national strike is scheduled for today, Monday, October 12, for every shift at all former Ilva plants. The unions FIOM, FIM, and UILM have called the strike following the outcome of the latest meeting at Palazzo Chigi.
Following yesterday's meeting at Palazzo Chigi regarding the former Ilva dispute, FIM, FIOM, and UILM unfortunately acknowledged that the only issue currently under discussion with the government is social safety nets for all workers and all factories, with no real prospect of a return to work.
Thus the three unions in a joint statement.
Last July, they recall, we presented the government with a joint document, the 'Extraordinary National Plan for the Safety and Revitalization of the Former Ilva'. In this document, we called for concrete commitments to a serious and credible industrial decarbonization plan covering all sites, a social plan that protects direct workers, contractors, and Ilva As, including through extraordinary measures and compensation, and direct state intervention to ensure the transition and job security.
Unfortunately, during the meeting, there was no discussion of a plan that refocuses employment and income protection alongside environmental remediation. No response was provided regarding the opportunity to purchase semi-finished products to start up the cold-finishing lines in Taranto, Genoa, Novi Ligure, Racconigi, and all the other production sites. Nor was there any response regarding the extraordinary tools to support this phase, such as early retirement, early retirement incentives, and retraining for a certain relocation to the decarbonized cycle.
"Based on what has emerged, the national trade unions have called a 24-hour strike for Monday, October 12, at all of the group's sites. They do not rule out extending the strike to the following days, including regional branches."
