A Brazilian and an Italian are the "world champions of tiramisu." The two winners were crowned at the tenth edition of the Tiramisu World Cup, the event that brings together hundreds of enthusiasts of the famous Italian dessert. Marcos Muzzi, a beekeeper from São Paulo, Brazil, won for the original recipe. Ciro Tomassini won for the creative recipe, with his creation of raspberry compote, white chocolate, and lemon honey: a tiramisu shaped like a beehive.
This year's competition featured 320 contestants from around the world, representing 33 countries (including Italy). 130 foodie judges completed an online quiz to become part of the Selections panel. They had 40 minutes to prepare their portion. There were two competition categories: the original recipe, with the traditional six basic ingredients (eggs, sugar, mascarpone, ladyfingers, coffee, and cocoa), and the creative one, with the option to add up to three ingredients and substitute the biscuit.
Over the past ten years, we've learned that tiramisu isn't just a product around which to build a competition. It's a language that allows us to share Treviso and the Veneto region with people who may not yet be familiar with the region. We bring this curiosity to our international locations as well: there, connections are born that foster cultural and economic exchanges.
The real challenge in the coming years will be to increasingly transform this international attention into a desire to come and discover our places, those to which tiramisu is now inextricably linked,” said Francesco Redi, creator and organizer of the TWC.
We celebrated this first anniversary in style. Registration is already open for next year, which will be even more engaging and exciting. Every year, we see how the interest and network of relationships that develop around Tiramisu grow and strengthen, both in our region and beyond. Tiramisu itself is now more than just recipes: it's a language that brings together and unites so many people.
