During the clashes and violence on the sidelines of yesterday's demonstration in Paris, French police arrested 855 people, according to the Prefecture of Police, which released a tally this morning, Sunday, October 18, at 8 a.m., emphasizing that this represents a "record number" of arrests.
In the capital, 13 police officers and gendarmes, as well as two firefighters, were injured, the prefecture added, specifying that those responsible were part of "violent groups, characterized by an unusually large size (from 500 to over a thousand people)." The assessment of the damage and looting of businesses is still ongoing, but "the extent of the damage observed is significant," the statement concluded.
