(Adnkronos) –
Andrea Bocelli chooses to respond with irony and understanding to the controversy surrounding Alessandro Roncaccia, a contestant on Big Brother VIP on Canale 5, who has been at the center of criticism for a comment referring to the internationally renowned tenor's blindness.
The episode dates back to a few days ago, when Roncaccia, while playing ball with Guendalina Tavassi inside the house, uttered the phrase "Even Bocelli used to take this."
A remark that, in the context of the game, was clearly intended to emphasize the ease of the action, but it provoked a strong reaction on social networks. Many users found the reference to the singer's visual impairment inappropriate and offensive; others, however, urged users to contextualize the words, avoiding turning an offhand joke into a disciplinary case.
Andrea Bocelli himself has come to put an end to the matter, at least on a personal level.
Interviewed by Adnkronos, the tenor said he learned of the joke without feeling particularly resentful. "I learned about the joke, and I must say it made me smile. It could be considered, at most, a small lapse in style, but these are things that can happen to anyone," commented Maestro Andrea Bocelli. "I sincerely thank those who wanted to defend me, and I would ask everyone to let the matter drop.
I would be sorry if this episode ended up damaging the person who uttered those words. I believe each of us should remember how many times we have needed the indulgence of others. It is a generosity we can repay every day, starting with the little things,” he concluded. These words, therefore, are a marked departure from the more heated tone of the online controversy and shift the focus from the alleged offense to the collective reaction that followed.
