(Adnkronos) – "We have a great advantage, as a community: we are certain that someone is lying, there is no doubt that in this final part of this very sad story, someone is lying." Thus began the speech by Antonio De Rensis, the lawyer representing Alberto Stasi, who was a guest today on the Rai 1 program Storie Italiane hosted by Eleonora Daniela, answering a question about the statements made last night to Bruno Vespa by former RIS general Luciano Garofano regarding the Garlasco crime.
Garofano himself has come under scrutiny by the Pavia Public Prosecutor's Office for analyses conducted in 2007, doubtfully following the murder of Chiara Poggi, for which Stasi himself was definitively convicted, but which could now reach a new turning point following the inclusion of Andrea Sempio in the register of suspects.
De Rensis also stated that "we've also overcome difficulties regarding the statute of limitations because whoever is lying is lying today. Something tells me the Prosecutor's Office will do everything it needs to do to find out who's lying, and so will I and Attorney Bocellari," who is assisting Stasi with him.
De Rensis then goes on to comment directly on Garofano's words, according to which "the fingerprint is not useful because it did not contain blood."
At this point, Stasi's lawyer addresses the host directly: "You've given me a great gift, perhaps because you know I get up at 5 a.m. in Milan. You played me a melody; these words are music to my ears, both considering what Dr. Garofano said to Dr. Civardi and what he said yesterday on the show. It doesn't seem to me to be exactly the same, both in terms of your knowledge of the reruns and in relation to what Marino said, because the latter told the deputy prosecutor that those two negative results probably deserved further investigation, just as I remember what Colonel Coli said, namely, that the amount of DNA taken from the pedals (of Stasi's bike, ed.) raised many doubts in me. Evidently, the 24 minutes during which the general was interviewed, unlike the hours spent by his collaborators, have some significance? I'll leave the answer to you," he concludes.
The reference is to the two analyses carried out on 20 September 2007 on
Stasi's bicycle pedals
, those that allegedly yielded negative results and were never filed. In the reports that emerged in recent weeks, Garofano allegedly claimed he didn't recall seeing results after those of September 19th.
