(Adnkronos) – Decarbonizing isn't just an environmental issue; "it means emancipating ourselves from fossil fuels and therefore increasing our ability to address issues like energy security and sustainability. But while the goal is shared, achieving it today requires a shift in approach, just as one changes course when the wind changes." Luca Squeri, Forza Italia's energy director, said this in his speech at the Adnkronos Q&A conference "Sustainability, the new keywords," currently underway at the Palazzo dell'Informazione in Rome.

We need to "move toward a sustainable energy transition, not just in words," Squeri emphasizes. Exploring the details, he says: "The ETS was created to discourage the use of gas, but this was decided when gas cost less than €20 per megawatt hour. Maintaining the current ETS is detrimental; in my opinion, it should be suspended. Meanwhile, the government is calling for the ETS to be removed from the gas component used to produce electricity, which significantly impacts bills."

"Worldwide, we still have 86% fossil fuels, in Europe we have 73%. Decarbonizing means reversing these numbers, not just in words. The sustainable energy transition must be implemented concretely, taking into account a series of factors, and slogans must not prevail," says Squeri, emphasizing that "one of the most concrete interventions, in my opinion, of the current government is to begin the process of introducing sustainable nuclear power."
