"This video," Letta added, "is proof that presidents come and go, but 'Porta a Porta' remains." He joked with the host about being kept in Rome by the flu: "You've been there for thirty years, and now you're in L'Aquila with a brace, while I, due to a slight fever, stayed in Rome on the doctors' advice.
You must have told the doctors, 'I'm going to L'Aquila anyway.'"
And commenting on each of the presidents, Letta observed: "Prodi was Berlusconi's main rival, the only one to beat him. There was very strong competition between them, then time made Prodi's prejudices about Berlusconi somewhat different from those he had when the competition was very strong."
Pressed by Vespa, Letta touched on Italy's future. "There are many things that lead us to pessimism, but in front of the guests of the Prix Italia, who come from many parts of Italy, we have a duty to be optimistic," he said. "Italy managed to rise from the ruins of war, it transformed an agricultural country into an industrial one, and for this reason it will be able to solve its problems and move forward." Finally, Letta joked about the longevity of 'Porta a Porta,' which celebrated its thirtieth anniversary in January. "I won't be there for the next thirtieth anniversary, but you certainly will be there, and I'll be watching you from up there," he told Vespa.
