(Adnkronos) – "The issue of railway safety is extremely complex, especially when it comes to interconnected railways. The national goal is to achieve technological standards similar to those used in the rest of Europe. This, as is easy to imagine, requires extremely significant investments." These are the words of Massimo Nitti, board member of Ferrovie del Gargano, at the 20th edition of the Asstra National Conference, scheduled for October 21st and 22nd at the Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel in Rome, entitled "Valuable Mobility, Value for Mobility."
Nitti then analyzed the risks associated with digitalization and the possible consequences of a cyber attack on railway traffic systems: “We have a strong digital component in companies, but we don't know whether all traffic control systems are capable of withstanding what is now commonly called hybrid warfare.
An attack on the traffic systems could effectively bring rail traffic to a halt. If we imagine having a single traffic system for all of Europe, you can easily understand that a concentrated attack could completely block train traffic across the entire continent.
