(Adnkronos) – Roberto Petri, President of Assoporti, visited the Port of Civitavecchia and the headquarters of the Central-Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority (PTA) at Molo Vespucci yesterday. He was welcomed by President Raffaele Latrofa, Secretary General Fabrizio Urbani, and all the Authority's employees. The visit began with an inspection from the sea of the northern part of the port channel, aboard a vessel provided by the Port of Civitavecchia's Mooring and Boatmen Group, and then continued on land.
An opportunity to observe firsthand the projects transforming the airport and explore their prospects.
During the inspection, Latrofa illustrated the progress of the main works: from the completion of the southern opening and the connection to the breakwater leading to the cruise terminals, to the construction site for the breakwater extension, now in its final phase with the installation of the last cellular caisson.
There will also be work on cold ironing, which will allow docked ships to be powered by shore-based electricity, thus helping to reduce emissions in port.
The completed works were also presented, including the new docks of the service dock and the last mile of rail access, a strategic infrastructure for strengthening rail freight transport and integrating the port with logistics networks.
Subsequently, at the Molo Vespucci headquarters, Petri met with Authority officials, who presented their ongoing activities. The discussion covered the entire Network, with a special focus on the interventions and prospects for the ports of Fiumicino and Gaeta.
Finally, a meeting with all Port Authority employees. "I am honored to have received President Petri's visit, to whom we were able to illustrate the ongoing work and the development plan for the Network's ports," stated Port Authority President Raffaele Latrofa. "We are adhering to the project schedule, advancing projects that will strengthen the port's accessibility, efficiency, and sustainability. This commitment is accompanied by positive prospects for traffic, especially cruises, for which we expect further growth. At the same time, we are working to revitalize commercial traffic: new infrastructure and the enhancement of rail connections are essential tools for attracting freight, offering more competitive services to businesses, and creating new job opportunities. The goal is to consolidate Civitavecchia's role and enhance the potential of Fiumicino and Gaeta, thus developing the entire port system."
"This was an opportunity," Latrofa concluded, "to illustrate to President Petri, who since the beginning of his mandate has been an absolute benchmark for both his competence and professionalism, as well as his undoubted human qualities, the health of the institution, including its economic and financial standing. I am certain that the President will be the best person to represent our concerns in the relevant bodies."
"Today's visit was particularly useful," stated Assoporti President Roberto Petri, "because it allowed me to see firsthand a port undergoing a major transformation and to engage with President Latrofa and the management and staff of the Port System Authority. Civitavecchia is a strategic port for the national port system, not only for its leadership in the cruise sector, but also for its potential in trade, logistics, and intermodality. The ongoing projects, from infrastructure enhancements to cold ironing to rail connections, are moving in the direction we, at Assoporti, believe to be fundamental: more competitive, sustainable ports that are increasingly integrated with networks and local communities. I particularly appreciated the meeting with the Authority's employees, because behind the infrastructure, investments, and results of our ports there are always skills, professionalism, and people. As Assoporti, we will continue to represent and support, at national and European level, the needs of the port system so that investments can translate into growth, jobs, and development of the real economy."
