(Adnkronos) – “Basilicata has two sites of national interest (SIN) that have been contaminated in the past by industrial activities that have compromised some environmental matrices such as the soil and the aquifer. The ARPA (Regional Environmental Protection Agency) is committed in Basilicata, as elsewhere, because unfortunately there are many SIN areas that need to be remediated, in monitoring the environmental elements and therefore understanding the contaminants that have compromised the quality.
After that, the reclamation process begins to return these areas to the populations, communities, and territories so that they can be reused for human purposes."
This was Donato Ramunno, director general of Arpab (the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Basilicata), speaking to Adnkronos live from Ecomondo, the green, blue, and circular economy event, taking place at the Rimini Fiera until November 6.
Ramunno, who is also vice president of the National Environmental Protection System (SNPA) Council, explains in the interview the steps involved in reclaiming the land and protecting the environment.
