(Adnkronos) – Work will begin on Monday, October 26, on the Calderara – Seveso River Park project, promoted by Gruppo Cap. The goal is to transform an area of approximately 10 hectares into a park that integrates rainwater management, landscape redevelopment, and new public spaces, for an investment exceeding 11,2 million euros.
The area's transformation includes cycle and pedestrian paths, rest areas, multipurpose spaces, the installation of new plants, wetlands, ponds, and a permanent lake. The works are funded for over €7,5 million through the Integrated Water Service tariff and €3,7 million through a contribution from the Lombardy Region.
The project is expected to last approximately 22 months. The initial activities will involve preserving the most important trees, preparing the construction site, clearing the area, and conducting archaeological excavations. Once this phase is complete, the project's scheduled operations will begin.
"The start of work represents an important step in the redevelopment of this area of our territory, which will become a new public space for citizens," says Anna Varisco, mayor of Paderno Dugnano. "The Water Park will be a resource for the entire city, and especially for the Calderara neighborhood, which will benefit from a new green space to enjoy and share."
The hydraulic works system will be able to handle up to 12.200 cubic meters of water.
Overflow water from the Calderara district's urban basin will be intercepted and managed through a coordinated set of collection, treatment, lamination, and infiltration projects. The goal is to reduce the load on the sewer system and purification system and help improve the area's hydraulic safety.
Among the planned works are first-run water treatment systems and constructed wetlands, which leverage natural processes to help treat water. The project also includes a retention basin and two infiltration basins, which will temporarily store water and facilitate its dispersion into the soil.
"With the Water Park, we are advancing a land management model in which water service infrastructure becomes an integral part of urban and environmental planning. The project integrates water collection, treatment, and infiltration, using nature-based solutions to contribute to the resilience of the area. It is an investment that combines Gruppo CAP's industrial expertise with the potential to generate environmental and landscape value for the community," concludes Yuri Santagostino, President and CEO of Gruppo Cap.
