Transport strike: Trucks on the warpath, five-day halt in April

Transport strike: today the date of the shutdown will begin, forcing residents to crowd supermarkets in search of food and other essential goods.

The war in Iran is having repercussions on many aspects of daily life in Italy, too. The greatest impact is currently on gasoline and diesel, but we will soon see price increases on other essential goods that pass through the Middle East to reach Italy. This is why certain trade associations have called a strike.

The effects of the war in Iran on transportation

The war in Iran not only increases the cost of diesel and gasoline for citizens but naturally also increases the cost for those who work as truck drivers and must fill dozens if not hundreds of trucks with diesel every day in order to work.

For those in that sector, the price increase has been sharp and significant in the space of just a few hours , with diesel at over 2 euros/litre and trucks having tanks holding over 100 litres, one can immediately calculate how much it costs to fill them up.

The situation is obviously unsustainable and we need to somehow send a message to push for change or at least an attempt at dialogue to try to return to some apparent normality.

Road haulage workers increasingly likely to face a five-day strike.

The trucking industry is about to announce a roadblock for the next few days , and the impact on residents will be on their daily shopping, as there's a serious risk of seeing empty supermarket shelves.

As reported by La Nazione, the day on which the strike will start is being decided today , the main trade associations throughout the country are ready to join in and turn off the engines of the vehicles.

The Arezzo area in particular will be hit hard because transport companies are large; many truck drivers have complained of increases of 900 euros per day for refueling their vehicles compared to the pre-conflict period.

By doing so, the already struggling sector risks reaching a point of no return : while on the one hand large companies can somehow survive, for small entrepreneurs the situation is about to become unsustainable.

They hope that by folding their arms for five days they can in the meantime find an agreement to guarantee at least 100 million euros in vouchers , allowing them to continue for a few weeks without suffering the price increases that unfortunately are growing visibly day by day.
