Meloni responded by calling the White House leader's continued attacks "senseless," recalling that her popularity "depends on the ability to defend the national interest" and that the use of military bases is governed by agreements that Italy "does not violate." The prime minister concluded by emphasizing that she would not return to the topic because she believes "in the unity of the West" and believes that this conflict "is not up to our task."
