(Adnkronos) – A large fire has broken out at the Ospedale del Mare in Naples. The flames broke out this afternoon, Sunday, June 21, around 5:00 PM, from one of the hospital's wards located in the Ponticelli neighborhood. The thick cloud of smoke, coming from the building's insulation, was clearly visible in the area, even from quite a distance.
Some patients and staff were evacuated.
Firefighters extinguished the fire late this afternoon. No injuries were reported.
According to reports, the fire started from some stacked wooden pallets. The damage, which is yet to be quantified, was limited thanks to the timely intervention of 40 firefighters, who are still working to cool the building.
The flames damaged the structure's external insulation panels.
