Buonfiglio: "The Malagò case? I never wanted it. We need to be careful, and CONI will try not to make mistakes."

"I'll start by saying that I never believed or wanted this matter to materialize and become formalized. That said, it must be approached carefully and without haste. CONI and the CONI president will try not to make mistakes." These were the words of CONI president Luciano Buonfiglio, on the sidelines of the presentation of Obiettivo Tricolore in the Senate, regarding the rejected request by the Attorney General for Sport to dismiss the Giovanni Malagò registration case.

"The possibility of a commissionership? How many times have you asked me about it in the past, but I won't be influenced by anyone from the right or the left, from above or below," Buonfiglio added. "But I have to do what is not a right, but a duty, of the CONI president: make very careful assessments. We'll evaluate the situation."

Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, also spoke out on the Malagò case. "It's an issue that sports justice is addressing at every level. The rules are well known—both sporting and state—despite their openness to interpretation. Everyone has their role; mine is that of a respectful but interested observer of this situation."

Yesterday, the Attorney General's Office for Sport, led by Ugo Taucer, rejected the request to dismiss the case presented by the head of the FIGC's federal prosecutor's office, Giuseppe Chinè, regarding the investigation into Malagò's refusal to register him. Taucer sent a report to Chinè and, for information, to Buonfiglio, communicating the decision. In the report, Taucer requests clarification and further arguments. Chinè will provide further clarification and further arguments regarding the approach that led him to request dismissal.
