(Adnkronos) – “I enjoyed the freedom we were given and the opportunity to recount a seemingly past, made up of memories that seem forgotten, lost, or dormant, but which are actually the cement upon which you build the future.” Actor and director Sergio Castellitto said this on the sidelines of the presentation of “Non Oggi,” the short film he directed and starred in, produced by Dude in collaboration with Philip Morris Italia, and presented at the Rome Film Fest.

The film tells the story of a future in which traditional cigarettes have become objects of the past, through the story of a man who visits the Museum of Lost Memories with his granddaughter.

"We all tend, in some way, to repress and store many things in our minds. Instead, we need to hold on to them, because then they suddenly come back and stick like a needle in your heart," Castellitto explained, focusing on the relationship between memory and the future that runs through the short film.

The meaning of the story, he explained, is found rather in the image of the Museum of Lost Memories. "Lost is a word that means somewhat forgotten, but also something I might find again. I like to imagine it more in the latter sense."

In the short film, the protagonist confronts objects that have accompanied his existence and which become tools to recover apparently lost experiences and emotions.

"He realizes that those objects belong to his life, not only because they are his real computer or his real camera, but because they reawaken a memory," Castellitto said. "He reconstructs the entire fabric of his life, what he has forgotten, what he wanted to forget, and what instead, from that moment on, when he emerges from that trip to the museum, he will hold on to: those memories he had repressed," he concluded.
