Wardrobe dilemma: what do Italians choose while waiting for the cold weather?

(Adnkronos) - We're well into autumn, but the real cold weather continues to linger, and so, right in front of the closet, the seasonal dilemma returns. Between jackets that seem too heavy, sweaters that seem too light, figuring out what to wear can become a real crisis.

(Adnkronos) – We're well into autumn, but the real cold weather continues to linger, and so the seasonal dilemma returns punctually in front of the wardrobe. Between jackets that seem too heavy, sweaters that seem too light, figuring out what to wear turns into a real transitional wardrobe crisis, which is also reflected in Italians' shopping choices.

When temperatures are unpredictable, the simplest strategy is to focus on items that always work. This is why, according to data collected by Flashion, footwear remains the most purchased category for both men and women, accounting for approximately 35% of spending. A timeless item that transcends seasons and allows you to update your look without necessarily having to restock your wardrobe early.

When looking at men's clothing choices, practicality and multi-seasonality are the mainstays. Jeans, now a staple in any wardrobe year-round, remain a staple, followed by sweaters and cardigans, which account for 16% and 15% of purchases, respectively. These are ideal for days with variable temperatures, paired with trench coats, leather jackets, and vests (10%), perfect for completing lightweight and versatile outfits.

Down jackets and sweatshirts, however, remain at the bottom of the list, a sign that, even in purchasing decisions, winter still seems far away.

Women, aided by the sales season, seem to be getting ahead of the game, taking advantage of opportunities to prepare for the colder months without waiting for temperatures to drop. Down jackets, jackets, and coats, which account for approximately 14% of purchases, are a true staple of the female wardrobe. A handbag, a true staple of the season, remains a key player in this fall's shopping, accounting for 17% of purchases. Two different approaches, then, but united by the search for versatile pieces and purchases that make sense beyond a single season.

While men and women have different wardrobe strategies, when it comes to shopping, convenience is a key consideration. Online shopping allows you to explore boutiques even far from home, compare options, and choose without time constraints. Tools like Flashion's virtual try-on also open up new possibilities for viewing items before purchasing, right from your couch. Technology thus seeks to bridge the gap between the digital experience and the physical store, offering added support precisely when choosing what to wear is less straightforward.

"In a season where the weather is constantly changing and planning purchases becomes more difficult, digital can help us make more informed choices, providing access to more options and tailoring the experience to our individual needs. The future of shopping isn't just about buying online, but about bringing the security and simplicity we seek when we enter a boutique to digital," comments Alessio Cardellini, founder of Flashion.
