The role of the circular economy in European industrial competitiveness and the prospects for the future Circular Economy Act were the focus of the conference "Circular Economy Act: challenges, opportunities, and implications for European packaging," which took place yesterday at Ecomondo. The meeting hosted the presentation of the study "A new European industrial policy for the circular economy," conducted by CONAI and TEHA Group, and explored the prospects for developing a European secondary raw materials market, with particular attention to the balance between supply and demand, the interoperability of national systems, and the investments needed to strengthen the competitiveness of European industry. Representatives of European institutions took part in the debate, including Eric Mamer, of the European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment, and Pierfrancesco Maran, MEP, along with Massimo Milani, Secretary of the Chamber of Deputies' Committee on Environment, Land, and Public Works, and Tullio Patassini, Head of the Secretariat of the President of the Committee on Productive Activities. Speakers also included Edo Ronchi, President of the

Sustainable Development Foundation, and representatives of Verpact and EXPRA, organizations active in the management and recycling of packaging waste. Discussions on the future Circular Economy Act continue this afternoon with the meeting "Closing the Loop in Waste Management: The New Challenges of the Circular Economy Act," dedicated to new perspectives on waste management in the context of evolving European regulations.

One year after the launch of the manifesto "Strengthening the Climate Resilience of Maritime Regions," the meeting "Adaptive Regeneration of Coastal Areas and Territories: What Opportunities Does the New European Framework for Climate Resilience Offer?" was held yesterday at Ecomondo 2026. The meeting was organized in collaboration with MASE, ISPRA, the Emilia-Romagna Region, GNRAC, and the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe. The event explored the opportunities offered by the new European framework for climate resilience, involving representatives of the European Commission, European agencies, and national institutions, including the Italian Government's Special Envoy for Climate Change and the President of the PNRR-PNIEC Technical Commission, along with representatives of MASE, the European Investment Bank, academia, and regional and local governments. At the heart of the debate was the importance of multilevel governance and collaboration with local communities to implement European climate adaptation and ecosystem restoration strategies, with particular attention to the Emilia-Romagna Region's role in launching the Water Resilience Alliance and initiatives developed at the local level.

The textile sector took center stage at Ecomondo 2026 with a dedicated program of events. Yesterday, the conference "ESPR and Digital Product Passport in Textiles: Traceability and Transparency Along the Value Chain" took place. The conference focused on the role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in improving product traceability, textile waste collection, and the quality of secondary raw materials. The discussion focused on the information to be integrated into the Digital Product Passport (DPP) and the methods for ensuring its quality, reliability, and interoperability throughout the supply chain. The meeting, opened by AISEC and featuring institutional speakers from MIMIT and EURATEX, involved representatives from research, academia, industry associations, and companies such as Bulgari, Calzedonia, Brandart, and Saipem. Also yesterday, the third edition of the conference "Reuse, Repair, and Eco-Design: The Heroes of 'Magic' Circles of Circular Economy in the Textile Sector" was held.
