(Adnkronos) – It's now official. A new era begins for Jannik Sinner. The Italian champion announced today, Friday, November 6, his separation from his longtime coach Darren Cahill, who has guided him to great success. At the same time, he made it official – starting next month – that former ATP No. 2 Magnus Norman will join his staff as his new coach alongside Simone Vagnozzi.
But who is Magnus Norman? Born on May 30, 1976, Norman is a former Swedish player who reached the world ranking of second in 2000, winning 12 ATP singles titles. That same year, he played in the final of the Roland Garros, as well as reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open, confirming his position as a leading player on the circuit.
After retiring in 2004, he successfully reinvented himself on the bench, becoming one of the most respected coaches in world tennis.
His name is most closely linked to his extraordinary collaboration with Stan Wawrinka, which began in 2013 and developed over several years. Under the Swede's guidance, the Swiss champion made the leap that allowed him to establish himself at the highest levels, winning three Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open in 2014, the Roland Garros in 2015, and the US Open in 2016.
On all three occasions, Wawrinka defeated one of the great tennis protagonists of the time in the final: Rafael Nadal in Melbourne and Novak Djokovic in both Paris and New York.
