Adnkronos (Adnkronos) – "Over the past two years, Acea has served as a convener at the World Economic Forum for all water industry operators, because water is an ecosystem made up not only of operators, but also of governments, institutions, financiers, and the wider public." This was stated by Marco Pastorello, Acea's Chief Transformation Officer, on the sidelines of One Water – Euro-Mediterranean Forum, currently underway at the Nuvola in Rome.
"It's important to be at an occasion like this to continue the conversation," he added, explaining that the group has also brought new insights to the table. "Together with the Forum and the University of Cambridge, last year we developed one of the most comprehensive studies on the global water infrastructure gap and infrastructure needs," which estimates the gap "at up to €6.500 trillion."
Filling it by 2040, he emphasized, "would have excellent repercussions for both the economy and employment." He focused on the Euro-Mediterranean region, defined as a "climate crisis hotspot," where "investing in resilience is absolutely necessary," as "operators like Acea have already been doing for some time." Pastorello cited his own operations in Lazio, where Acea has districted the network and "significantly reduced losses," and North Africa, where "one of the greenest desalination plants in the world is under construction in Morocco, because it will be powered by wind energy."
To accelerate investments, he concluded, "it will be necessary to continue collaborating with institutions, particularly with both public and private finance."
