Pope Leo XIV and his trip to Latin America: 12 days in Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru
An itinerary that combines institutional events, religious celebrations, and meetings with the most vulnerable segments of the population. Matteo Bruni , Director of the Holy See Press Office, explained the significance of the trip, emphasizing the human and spiritual value of the initiative.
" For the Pope , the journey, this journey in particular, is a time of listening, of encounter, a blessed time ," he explained. For Uruguay and Argentina, this is a return they have been waiting for for nearly forty years , while for Peru, the visit takes on a personal significance, considering the long period Robert Prevost spent in the country as a missionary and bishop.
The program includes 36 speeches, all in Spanish , and numerous trips to cities, shrines, and local communities. The first stop will be Montevideo, where the Pontiff will meet with authorities and civil society in Plaza Independencia. The following day, he will travel to Paysandú, before returning to the capital for a meeting with the community of Casavalle, a meeting dedicated to education, and a prayer vigil at the Centenario Stadium. On Sunday, November 8, he will celebrate Mass in Florida, at the National Shrine of the Virgen de los Treinta y Tres, before departing for Buenos Aires. The mottos chosen for the three stops summarize the spirit of the visit: joy in Uruguay, welcome and mission in Argentina, and openness of heart in Peru.

In Argentina, where Leo XIV will arrive on November 8, the program will focus on the relationship between faith, society, and collective responsibility . After a welcome at the Casa Rosada and meetings with institutions, visits to welfare organizations, meetings with the world of work, and opportunities for discussion with representatives of Christian communities and other religious traditions are planned. Among the stops will be the Piccolo Cottolengo Don Orione in Claypole , a facility dedicated to assisting the most vulnerable. There will also be meetings with young people and prisoners, along with a particular pastoral focus on the possibility of personal redemption.
The Argentine itinerary will also include Córdoba and the Shrine of Nuestra Señora de Luján, a central site of popular devotion and linked to the memory of Pope Francis. From November 11, the Pontiff will travel to Peru , where he will remain until the end of his trip. In addition to Lima and Chiclayo , cities with which he maintains strong personal ties, he will visit Cuzco and Pucallpa , also reaching communities far from the main urban centers.
On the health front, Bruni reported that doctors are confident and that no extraordinary health measures are planned , albeit with some adjustments to the agenda to ensure the Pope gets the necessary rest.
