(Adnkronos) – "A twenty-year story is coming to an end. I'm gathering the memories that have accompanied me through approximately 500 episodes of Report." Sigfrido Ranucci wrote this on social media, alongside a video showing the journalist packing boxes to leave the 'Report' editorial office.
“I had taken it into account,” Ranucci adds, “and I always tried to imagine how it would go: I imagined many scenarios, but I never would have thought of such monstrous outcomes.
However, I regret nothing I've done. I would do it all again, because I chose to defend principles, I chose not to bow before anyone, not even before my own fears or uncertainties, even when it would have been more convenient and beneficial to me.
“And sometimes choosing,” the journalist continues, “serves to disorientate, to transform ourselves into Maremma shepherds to show the way to others.
Love for free information, love for the spirit of public service, for Rai."
Ranucci then tells an anecdote that inspired him: “During the funeral of Agnès Lassalle, the Spanish teacher from Saint-Jean-de-Luz killed with a stab wound to the heart by a sixteen-year-old, her partner, Stéphane Voirin, decided to pay homage to her by dancing alone in front of the coffin to the tune of Nat King Cole's “LOVE,” their song.
Suddenly, everyone present began dancing, transforming their emotion into sharing. Transforming pain into resilience: that's what I'll do, with the promise of seeing you again sooner or later," he emphasizes.
"I'm sorry," he concludes, "that I couldn't say goodbye to you from the Report studio. Parting, sometimes, is such a sweet pain. But only with the heart can we see clearly, and for this I can only thank you for the passion and dedication with which you have supported me over these years and which, despite everything, you still give me today."
