(Adnkronos) – “I think this story highlights his lack of morality, his lack of sensitivity, and his toxic masculinity. It demonstrates the depth of the infection currently plaguing the US government, highlighting the depravity of the Trump administration. You have to be stoned and out of your mind to get that kind of insight.”

This is how actress Susan Sarandon, during the presentation of 'The Accompanist' at Alice nella Città, a festival independent of and parallel to the Rome Film Fest, commented on the US administration's decision to livestream the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former military psychiatrist responsible for the 2009 Fort Hood massacre.

A case that, according to the actress, "reopened the debate on the death penalty and brought attention to the depravity of this administration. Much of the world, after all, doesn't even practice capital punishment. I don't think I've seen anything so shocking since the videos released by ISIS." Sarandon then recalls: "We already saw such horror during slavery, when people gathered to watch Black men hang from trees.

It is something extremely dangerous, terrible and profoundly inhumane,” he concludes.
