The dispute between the Government and the road haulage industry has come to a close . Following the meeting between the government and UNATRAS , the unitary coordination of national road haulage associations , the measures envisaged in the agreement signed at Palazzo Chigi on May 22nd have become operational . Among the main provisions are the green light for tax credits to offset rising diesel costs and the establishment of a permanent road haulage and logistics committee.
In light of these developments, UNATRAS has definitively lifted the national ban on the category.
Road haulage: Tax credit to combat high diesel prices now available
During the meeting, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport presented the ministerial decree implementing the tax credit for road haulage companies most affected by the increase in diesel prices.
The provision also defines the procedures for submitting applications , which can be submitted through the IT platform managed by Sogei.
Government and UNATRAS: A permanent road haulage committee is established.
Among the most significant innovations is the establishment of the Permanent Roundtable on Road Transport and Logistics , which will bring together the associations represented in the Road Transport Register and the client organizations with the aim of structurally addressing the main critical issues in the supply chain.
The round table will be chaired by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport and will also see the participation of a representative of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
UNATRAS lifts national road haulage ban
Having acknowledged the implementation of the agreed measures, the UNATRAS Executive Committee unanimously resolved to definitively revoke the national road haulage ban , while confirming its intention to monitor compliance with all the commitments undertaken by the Government.
"The discussions with the government were positive, but it's important to remember that they only began after the road haulage ban was announced," says UNATRAS President Paolo Uggè. "Today we met at a broader meeting, attended by all the industry federations. This is an understandable decision, but it's important to remember that it was the industry's mobilization that led to the initiation of this process."
Uggè: "Diesel prices, Brenner Pass and competitiveness remain the priorities."
For the president of UNATRAS, a series of crucial questions for the future of the sector remain open. "The worsening international scenario forcefully brings to the fore crucial issues such as the high cost of diesel fuel , the competitiveness of Italian companies compared to European competitors, the restrictions at the Brenner Pass , and the so-called 'Alpine Wall .'" Added to these are mobility issues, such as the Florence hub , which increases driving times and impacts companies' daily operations."
Road haulage: ongoing discussions with the government
According to Uggè, the agreement reached marks the beginning of a new phase in relations between institutions and road haulage . "The dialogue with the government must become stable and permanent, including through the Transport and Logistics Consultation , to structurally address the sector's critical issues and strengthen the competitiveness of the entire national logistics system . UNATRAS will ensure that the commitments made are followed up with concrete actions and verifiable results."
