(Adnkronos) – Next weekend, we'll move the clocks back one hour, officially saying goodbye to daylight saving time and welcoming standard time. While we'll gain an hour of sleep, the shorter days and changing seasonal habits will have a direct impact on household energy consumption. According to data compiled by Pulsee electricity and gas, the standard time period shows overall energy consumption that's 24,1% higher than the summer time months.

The difference is particularly evident for laundry (+80,6%), driven by increased use of the dryer and more frequent wash cycles, and for lighting and electronics (+63,7%), due to earlier evening darkness and longer periods at home. Higher consumption is also seen for devices on standby (+4,7%) and for managing air conditioning and HVAC ventilation (+6,4%).

Transforming awareness of these seasonal dynamics into a tangible advantage is possible.

During a time of year characterized by physiologically higher consumption, adopting a conscientious approach and effective daily practices becomes essential to protecting your budget. Here are some tips from Pulsee electricity and gas to reduce your bill with the arrival of daylight saving time.

1) Smart management of washing machines and dryers. Laundry consumption shows the highest growth (+80,6%) during the months during standard time.

To optimize dryer use, it's advisable to set your washing machine's spin cycle to high speed to reduce residual moisture in your clothes. It's also a good idea to always put full loads of laundry into your washing machine and favor low-temperature cycles (30-40°C), significantly reducing energy consumption. It's also essential to pay attention to your appliances, choosing the most efficient models.

2) Lighting and electronics for evenings at home. With early darkness and more time spent indoors, consumption related to electronic devices increases by 63,7%. Replacing old light bulbs with LED solutions reduces consumption by up to 85%. Adjusting the brightness of monitors and TVs based on the ambient light and turning off unused devices during breaks avoids unnecessary energy waste.

3) Cut phantom power consumption (standby). Standby power consumption also increases during the winter months (+4,7%). Connecting your TV, consoles, and work desk to a power strip with a switch allows you to cut off power to all devices with a single click at the end of the day, eliminating passive costs at night.

4) Efficiency for heating and air conditioning. Starting the heating system increases consumption related to air conditioning and ventilation (HVAC +6,4%). Cleaning the system filters and bleeding the radiators ensures maximum efficiency. Keeping doors between rooms closed and avoiding covering radiators allows heat to be distributed evenly without overworking the system.

5) Take control with Energimetro technology. To transform good habits into tangible savings, it's essential to have full visibility of your energy usage. Using the Energimetro service on the Pulsee app, you can monitor the energy consumption of individual appliances in real time and follow the suggestions of the virtual assistant Elio to optimize consumption and reduce waste, achieving savings of up to 10% annually. Energimetro also monitors appliances, recommending which ones to replace to maximize efficiency and reduce consumption.

A few simple steps, combined with technology, allow you to face the change of seasons and the colder months with greater peace of mind and control. The answer lies in technological tools that put the consumer at the center, allowing them to actively protect their finances and the environment.

"With practical tools like Energimetro, we help people make more informed decisions about their energy consumption. Thanks to technology and real-time monitoring, we transform data into daily support for saving and adopting more sustainable habits, offering families practical guidance for optimizing spending, especially in the fall and winter months, when household consumption increases," comments Alicia Lubrani, CEO of Pulsee Luce e Gas.
