(Adnkronos) – “Hosting such a significant event as this congress is a crucial opportunity for us. It is a great honor and source of pride for the University of Milan to be able to present what will be the 2028 edition of ESMO. It is truly important for us to be able to present it here, especially because Professor Curigliano, who is our professor, will be the Principal Investigator of this entire initiative.” The “Department of Oncology, represented by Professor Vago, is also at the heart of this effort, thanks to the network of collaborations already in place with various hospitals and research centers on these topics: a work that connects training and research and promotes the translation of scientific advances into clinical practice, right to the patient’s bedside.”

This was stated by Marina Brambilla, rector of the University of Milan, speaking today in Milan at the meeting 'Towards ESMO 2028', where the European Society for Medical Oncology – ESMO formalized the choice of the Lombardy capital as the venue for the next Congress and presented the details of the event scheduled for October 20-24, 2028.

“We at the University of Milan – he continues – have long been leaders in oncology research and are therefore very happy to be able to present this opportunity today, which is an opportunity for everyone: for the city, for the region, for the many researchers, including those from other universities and other research institutions, who will contribute to making this event great and to placing at its centre what Milan, the Lombardy region and the national territory can offer on this topic”.

“This is also an important time for students,” adds the rector. “In the medical area, we have one of the University's most historic and distinctive areas, specifically in terms of training: we train new doctors and new researchers.

This way, we will be able to show our students, our young researchers, even those in the early stages of their research and doctoral studies, the state of the art of oncology research worldwide. These students will be able to be the protagonists of this event, alongside us, the university, and their professors. I believe it is an important way," he concludes, "to make them feel at the center of what aims to be an initiative based on the connection between education, research, and dissemination, including "to the public."
