(Adnkronos) – "ESMO is a global oncology society with approximately 53 members worldwide, with predominantly European roots. It hasn't been held in Milan for about twenty years. Milan, in particular, is a city that has made significant contributions to oncology research. Bringing this event back to 2028 is a recognition of the Milanese research ecosystem's global commitment, as well as an important event that will raise the profile of the city and the region, and will attract approximately 43 people from around the world."
This was stated by Giuseppe Curigliano, president-elect of ESMO-European Society of Medical Oncology and full professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Milan, at the meeting "Towards ESMO 2028" held today in Milan. During this meeting, the scientific society formalized the choice of Milan as the venue for the next Congress and presented the details of the event scheduled for October 20-24, 2028.
“We don't yet know what the conference topics will be,” Curigliano continued. “We usually find out about them six months in advance because oncology research is constantly evolving.
Before three weeks ago, we didn't know the program for next week's event in Madrid, for example, and that's because it usually presents original data: it's a conference where almost the entire program focuses on data from prospective, randomized trials, and the results are presented live at that time. We expect large numbers because over the past three years, ESMO has been fortunate enough to present dozens and dozens of studies that have radically changed clinical practice.
The greatest result achieved is precisely this, seeing the congress grow exponentially."
“It has become the expression,” he concluded, “of a global leader in the dissemination of knowledge and scientific expertise in the oncology field.”
