(Adnkronos) – Mercedes' future still lies in karting. And from Viterbo comes further confirmation of Italian talent: Niccolò Perico, just twelve years old, won the FIA OK-N Junior World Cup at the end of a starring weekend at the Leopard Circuit. This was at the same time that Kimi Antonelli, in Singapore, made a potentially decisive move in his bid for the Formula 1 World Championship, extending his lead to 102 points over rival George Russell.
But who is Niccolò Perico? Originally from Scanzorosciate, in the province of Bergamo, the 2014-born young driver dominated the event at the Leopard Circuit, building his triumph session after session.
After narrowly missing pole position, he won all the qualifying heats, winning the Super Heat and then sealing the final, controlling the race from the start without giving his opponents any space. A clear victory that further highlights one of the most exciting prospects on the Italian scene.
A day to remember for Perico, who with this victory adds the first major international trophy of his career to his trophy cabinet.
And also for Mercedes' youth program, which continues to invest in young talent after going all-in on Kimi Antonelli. For the Silver Arrows, the future is bright.
