Cavioni (IRC): "Spreading the culture of resuscitation in Italy"

(Adnkronos) - "We should spread the culture of cardiopulmonary resuscitation as widely as possible because, in reality, it is the citizen who saves people's lives, even before the healthcare professional." This is according to Simona Cavioni, director of the IRC (Italian Resuscitation Council) training center.

(Adnkronos) – "We should spread the culture of cardiopulmonary resuscitation as widely as possible because, in reality, it is the public who saves lives, even before the healthcare professional." This was stated by Simona Cavioni, director of the IRC – Italian Resuscitation Council Nursing Project training center in Monza, speaking today at Health & Safety Day 2026, held at the Triulza Foundation in Milan.

The initiative is promoted by Bayer on the occasion of World Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Day, which is celebrated on October 16, in collaboration with CDI – Centro Diagnostico Italiano.

A recent survey found that “1 in 2 Italians has little or no knowledge of emergency procedures and only 16% feel truly prepared to put them into practice.”

These are "somewhat discouraging, but unfortunately true" data, comments Cavioni. "We are a very empathetic population," but "not knowing and not knowing what to do" we do not intervene "in the various emergency situations for fear of making mistakes."
