(Adnkronos) – Concern is rising at Bayern Munich over the condition of coach Vincent Kompany. The 40-year-old Belgian collapsed after feeling unwell at the end of today's training session and was taken to the Munich hospital by ambulance. A helicopter arrived at the Bavarian club's training center, raising concerns.
The coach had already endured a difficult few days due to a viral infection that had compromised his physical condition. The first signs of illness emerged after the 6-1 win against Leipzig, when he forwent his usual post-match comments. Subsequently, Kompany skipped several training sessions to undergo medical checks.
His absence was also felt on the eve of the Champions League match against Arsenal, when his assistant Aaron Danks spoke at the press conference.
The staff urged caution, stressing the importance of respecting the recovery time. Despite the difficulties, the coach was able to return to the bench to face the Gunners. After the match, he explained that he had been struck by a particularly intense virus and had initially underestimated the symptoms.
Bayern then released a statement on the health conditions of their coach.
On Friday, Vincent Kompany required medical treatment following an illness during Bayern Munich's second team training session. The first-team coach was attending the reserve team's training session. Kompany will undergo a thorough check-up in the hospital and remain under medical observation. Until further notice, training and match management will be entrusted to his coaching staff.
