This is what Melania Trump said, according to a White House statement announcing that the first lady had secured a ceasefire in Oleshky, effective October 29.
“The situation in Oleshky is dire. Oleshky is a front-line war town on the brink of disaster. The remaining population of Oleshky is primarily elderly people who urgently need medical care, medicine, food, and clean water,” Melania Trump’s statement continued. “The residents of Oleshky have limited access to electricity, live amidst mined roads, and face frequent military attacks.”
The announcement of the American first lady's mediation comes after Pope Leo XVI held telephone conversations with both Vladimir Putin, on October 16, and Volodymyr Zelensky, three days later on October 19, to ask Oleshky for a humanitarian truce.
