(Adnkronos) –
Eni has decided to extend its price cap on fuels throughout the year. "We confirm that we will maintain the price cap concept until the end of the year," a company spokesperson said after CEO Claudio Descalzi's statement. "Regarding its level, currently at €2,25 for diesel and €1,99 for gasoline (as announced in early October), we will monitor market and price dynamics, as well as actual supplies available in relation to our logistics structure, to evaluate it over the course of the period."
Meanwhile, the presidents of the Senate opposition groups Francesco Boccia (PD), Luca Pirondini (M5S), Peppe De Cristofaro (AVS), and Raffaella Paita (IV) have written a letter to Senate President Ignazio La Russa urging him to schedule urgent communications from Transport Minister Matteo Salvini as soon as possible because "the decree law just approved by the government does not offer a response adequate to the situation," as does the methods chosen by the minister himself to manage the emergency.
"The truckers' protests sweeping across Southern Italy," write the opposition senators, "highlight a crisis that thousands of workers and businesses have long been denouncing. The decree law just approved by the government does not, in our opinion, offer an adequate response to the situation. The additional resources arrive after weeks of price increases and protests; the new tax credit coverage stops until October 5th, while costs continue to rise. The possibility of using the tax credits in 2027 does not solve the problem of those currently facing fuel, staffing, and vehicle payments. Furthermore, the sustainability of tariffs and the prospects for fleet renewal remain unanswered."
