(Adnkronos) – Former Ilva plant increases its extraordinary redundancy fund: Acciaierie d'Italia, in extraordinary administration, has requested an extension of the measure from the current 4.450 workers to a maximum of 8.622, valid until February 28, 2027, unless extended or renewed. The request concerns an additional 4.172 employees and involves nearly all of the group's plants.

The communication was forwarded to the trade unions, the competent ministries, and the interested Regions.

The decision comes at a delicate time for the future of the steelworks and the entire Italian steel industry, following the shutdown of the hot-rolling area of the Taranto plant. The commissioners justified the extension of the redundancy fund by citing the need to adapt the company's organization to the consequences of the court ruling.

The request submitted by Acciaierie d'Italia primarily concerns the Puglia site, but will also have consequences for plants in Northern Italy.

Specifically, up to 6.964 workers are expected to be laid off in Taranto (out of a total of 7.875), 870 in Genoa (out of a total of 917), and 515 in Novi (out of a total of 542). The request also affects the group's other locations, including Racconigi, Marghera, Paderno, and Legnaro.

Overall, Acciaierie d'Italia employs 9.626 people, according to the data reported in the press release.

The company specifies that the number of 8.622 represents the maximum average number of simultaneous suspensions requested, not necessarily the number of people who will always remain on furlough at the same time.

Furthermore, 1.004 units are planned to be in service to ensure the maintenance of the facilities, administrative and environmental compliance, and the activities necessary for operational continuity.
