(Adnkronos) – A judge whose decisions have always been a talking point. Today, Wednesday, October 28, Milan magistrate Tiziana Landoni decided to release Youssef Siher, who was arrested on charges of aggravated incitement to commit a crime with the aim of terrorism and organized violence. Her colleagues are rallying together, amidst the onslaught of right-wing politicians and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

"I'll say this bluntly. I consider the Milan investigating judge's decision not to validate the arrest of Youssef Siher, accused of managing the Telegram page 'Movimento 17 ottobre' (October 17 Movement), the page that incited the organization of the demonstrations that later led to the devastation of several businesses in Milan, to be shameful," the Prime Minister said.

Landoni, previously a judge in Busto Arsizio (Varese), has been on the seventh floor of the Milanese courthouse for about two years.

From Equalize, the alleged illicit dossier centered on the Via Pattari company, to several "red flag" cases, the decision to detain the political scientist and pro-PAL activist is undoubtedly the issue that is putting her in the spotlight. Her name, like that of prosecutor Francesca Crupi, who requested the validation of Siher's detention, appears in the Jurists' Appeal for Gaza, signed in September 2025 by 3.135 magistrates, professors, and lawyers.

The National Magistrates' Association (ANM) immediately expressed its solidarity with the judge. "Judicial decisions can be challenged on the merits and appealed within the proceedings. The delegitimization of colleagues, even those holding the highest institutional positions, is a now routine exercise in intimidation that should not be part of a constitutional state. An unbearable exercise," the statement went so far as to invoke the "autonomy and independence of the judiciary," which are "two cornerstones of democracy."

A joint statement by Vincenza Maccora, President of the Milan Preliminary Investigations and Preliminary Hearing Judge (GIP) and Fabio Roia, President of the Milan Court, is of the same tenor. "The statements made by several prominent political figures, including those holding institutional positions, following the decision of the Milan Court judge are unacceptable and demonstrate a lack of knowledge—real or disguised—of the legal institutions of a constitutional state." The decision "can be criticized and challenged using the means provided by law, but attacks on the person responsible for judging in an objectively complex social context must be rejected (...) The shame concerns other aspects of social life, not the responsible and difficult exercise of jurisdiction."
