(Adnkronos) – Laughter and applause at Rome's Teatro Brancaccio for the presentation of 'Oltre', Francesco Totti's book, with journalist Alessandro Alciato. Yesterday, Monday, October 19, during the evening, the former Giallorossi captain spoke candidly, reeling off a wealth of anecdotes to bring a smile to the faces of the many fans in attendance. Like the story of his first prostate exam: "I'm going to visit Vito Scala's son, and since Vito is like a big brother to me, he was everything to me and still is, he tells me anything in front of everyone and isn't ashamed.
He cracks a thousand jokes and (at one point) says, 'Check out Francesco, he's 50 and needs a prostate checkup.' He knows this is what drives me crazy; between checkups and injections, you have to stay at least two meters away. 'Then I'll call the other doctor,' he says. I leave, but he'll come get me.
This guy comes along, six feet tall, with a huge thumb. I said to him, 'What do you want to do with this thing…?'
The former Roma captain entertained the Brancaccio crowd with his story, punctuated by unconventional comedic timing: "Don't you dare," he continued, "or I'll kill you. I didn't know him, but I already hated him. Just the thought of him coming from down there gave me goosebumps..."
You've all had your prostate checked here, right? All right, go get it, it's beautiful..."
And again: "He takes the cream, puts it on this meter and a half long finger. 'Don't harden,' he told me, but how come I don't harden. Finally, it slowly went in and out of my mouth... I died, I didn't move for ten minutes. Then he put some ice on me and I left. I was walking like a penguin..."
During the evening, Totti spoke again about his farewell to football: “May 28th was like dying, in some ways. A forced farewell, one I didn't want. It was painful, but that's part of football: when you're needed, you're needed. When you're not needed, you're not needed anymore. I reluctantly accepted the management's decision. I was afraid of turning the page; I didn't know what I'd find. I felt lost. What am I afraid of? Death. I hope to continue with the desire and passion I have inside me…”
And again: "In these 50 years I have given and received so much love: from my family, from my children, from the people. It has been a simple, transparent give and take. I have done the work I have always wanted: for me, this is true love."
