(Adnkronos) – "A free newsletter on health and safety in healthcare and information campaigns: this is how Italian anesthesiologists and resuscitators will communicate with citizens." This was announced by the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation, and Intensive Care (SIAARTI) at the Members' Meeting of Icare 2026, the 80th national congress, which concluded on Saturday, October 24, in Milan with more than 3 attendees.
The Siaarti sepsis campaign for September 2026 – 'With sepsis, time matters' – reached at least 174 people on social media, with approximately 38 clicks to the website and 550 shares on Instagram, and was published 358 times in the press.
"It's important for citizens to understand the role of the anesthesiologist/resuscitator," says Elena Giovanna Bignami, president of Siaarti. "It's a specialized role, but somehow 'special' because it cuts across all hospital activities, but also across the community—emergency management, pain therapy clinics. I believe knowing that there are people behind the technique is fundamental."
A statement states that Siaarti's Instagram and Facebook profiles will have a new editorial line dedicated to citizens starting in January 2027. A free newsletter for citizens will be launched between March and April 2027. It will cover anesthesia, intensive care, emergency care and pain, health days, and healthcare safety. Three or four information campaigns are planned each year.
"The newsletter will offer scientific insights curated by Siaarti specialists, using language accessible even to non-experts," explains Silvia De Rosa, head of the Siaarti Communications Committee. "One example is the topic of anesthesia during childbirth, to clarify frequent doubts about epidurals, pain management, and procedural safety, leveraging the skills of anesthesiologists and resuscitators." At the inauguration, Siaarti called for adequate working hours, ongoing training, and a wellness program for every physician. "The recipient of our reflections," continues Bignami, "is certainly the Ministry of Health, to ensure these proposals are given space and concrete form. Truly, 'caring for those who care' is fundamental."
Over three days, Icare 2026 attracted more than 3 participants, 175 sessions, and 330 speakers. The program, without printed copies, was available on the Siaarti Congressi app, which was downloaded over a thousand times. With Food for Good, leftover food was transformed into 480 complete meals, donated to Siticibo, a non-profit food bank foundation founded in 2003 to recover surplus fresh and cooked food and immediately redistribute it for social purposes. Over 70 anesthesiologists and resuscitators attended Icare Recharge – The well-being of caregivers, a listening space for doctors; the Kids Area welcomed six children.
"In the near future," emphasizes Giacomo Grasselli, Vice President of Siaarti, "our discipline will face significant challenges: the imbalance between the availability of specialists and the ever-increasing number of services to be provided; the aging population, with the need to care for increasingly complex patients with specific needs; geopolitical instability and the risk of new pandemics; and the advent of artificial intelligence and new technologies. Furthermore, one aspect emerged forcefully during the Icare congress that I consider crucial for the years to come: the need to make the discipline increasingly inclusive and sustainable. This means responding to the diverse needs of patients, offering growth opportunities to professionals, improving working conditions, and reducing the environmental impact of our activities." The next national congress, Icare 2027, will be held in Rimini from October 28 to 30, 2027.
