Chris Philp, current Shadow Home Secretary for the Conservative Party, analyzes the international political landscape created by the recent rise of the AfD in Germany and the advance in Italy of Futuro Nazionale, founded by General Roberto Vannacci.

“What is happening must be considered a serious alarm bell for European governments, particularly the British one,” Philp explains to Adnkronos.
An analysis formulated by someone who dealt with the matter first-hand when the Tories were in government, having served as Under-Secretary of State for Immigration from 2020 to 2021 and subsequently as Minister of State at the Home Office until July 2024.
“Citizens,” he argues, “are exhausted by large-scale illegal immigration from Africa, the Middle East, and other parts of the world.
Those who arrive often don't speak our language, are unprofessional, and in several cases have committed extremely serious crimes, including rape and murder. If the traditional governing parties are unable to develop robust and truly effective solutions to stop irregular entry into Europe, public opinion will end up rewarding extremist forces," he emphasizes.
To contain this pressure, the British Conservative Party has identified only one solution: a complete end to the legal guarantees that currently block repatriations. "We must completely dismantle the legal system that allows almost all illegal immigrants to remain here. This means withdrawing from the European Convention on Human Rights and withdrawing from the European Union's ECAT treaty on human trafficking and modern slavery. This means preventing those who enter illegally from seeking political asylum and completely removing courts and judges from managing immigration matters," emphasizes Philip.
The stated goal is the immediate removal of those without residence permits. "Through these measures," he explains, "it will be possible to quickly deport any illegal immigrant or foreign criminal, sending them back to their country of origin or to a safe third country like Rwanda. When this line becomes operational, those intending to enter illegally will realize they have no chance of staying and will abandon their journey altogether.
