A car fight turns into a homicide in San Zeno, Arezzo.

On Halloween night in San Zeno, a 61-year-old consultant was killed; the investigation led to the arrest of a young Colombian.

On Halloween night, at 11:30 PM on October 31st, the quiet of the San Zeno industrial area, near the "La Torretta" restaurant, was shattered by screams coming from the parking lot. A restaurant owner, attracted by the commotion, called 118. Emergency responders arrived on the scene but were only able to confirm the death of Luciano Buonfiglio , 61, found on the ground with a severely fractured skull.

The discovery of the body and the first rescue operations

The first response was handled by medical personnel from the Croce Bianca of Arezzo, who immediately began first aid procedures, but were unable to save the victim's life. Subsequently, the Forensic Police began a thorough search of the parking lot, collecting fingerprints, biological residue, and other clues useful in reconstructing the events.

Identity of the victim and his/her connection to the community

Luciano Buonfiglio, born in Milan but a longtime resident of Manciano, a hamlet of Castiglion Fiorentino, was a consultant for an energy and communications company. The father of three children, he distinguished himself through civic activism, particularly in the fight against the planned construction of a biomass power plant in the early 2000s on the site of the former sugar refinery in Castiglion Fiorentino.

His death has caused deep emotion both in Arezzo and Castiglion Fiorentino.

The State Police investigation and the arrest of the suspect

The hours following the discovery were dominated by intense investigative work. Flying squad officers reviewed footage from surveillance cameras located in the parking lot, analyzing the movements of an individual who matched the descriptions provided by witnesses. Thanks to these elements, they identified a 29-year-old Colombian man , spotted a few meters from the crime scene.

Analysis of video surveillance images

The footage showed a brief but heated argument inside a car, followed by a sudden outburst of violence. The suspect was captured as he was leaving the parking lot, allowing authorities to quickly locate and arrest him. He was taken to the Arezzo Police Headquarters , where he was charged with aggravated homicide and placed in pretrial detention.

The public prosecutor on duty, Marco Dioni , authorized the removal of the body at 4:00 a.m., transferring it to the morgue of the San Donato Hospital in Arezzo for an autopsy. The autopsy will need to precisely determine the murder weapon, which has so far been suspected of being a blunt object, given that no knife or gun was recovered.

At this time, law enforcement is maintaining the utmost secrecy regarding the motive for the attack. It appears to be related to a verbal argument in a car, but the motive remains unclear. The suspect, currently considered presumed innocent until a final verdict is reached, will face legal proceedings that could last several months.
