(Adnkronos) – Officina Ai "is an initiative for the whole of Lombardy, combining innovation and development. This facility, which will be established in Milan, will also cover the entire Lombardy region, so we must be able to connect the entire region around this opportunity. It means manufacturing and producing artificial intelligence, that is, creating a new district, a new supply chain, and a new ecosystem that will focus on producing AI for the benefit of all the other innovation and development areas emerging in Lombardy.

It's an opportunity for self-sustainability, both technologically and economically." This was stated by Guido Guidesi, Councilor for Economic Development of the Lombardy Region, speaking today in Milan at the meeting "AI and Physical AI, the Impact in the Real World," organized by Assolombarda in collaboration with the Lombardy Region and Made. During the conference, the resolution was signed that launches phase two of Milan's Innovation and Development Zone (ZIS) dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, known as the "Officina AI."

Promoted by Assolombarda, the current leader, the Zis will see Made Competence Center take on the role of hub and management entity.

The spectre of rising energy costs hangs over the initiative: "Energy is the issue of issues," says Guidesi. "We are Europe's leading manufacturing region, and right now the risk is that the rope will snap.

Assolombarda knows this perfectly well: for three years we have been increasing both turnover and business volume in every quarter and in every economic cycle, despite a geopolitical situation that certainly doesn't help, given the international profile of our economic fabric and our production system," he emphasizes.

"Turnover has increased, but margins have shrunk, and this is something we can no longer afford," he warns. "There will be no loss-making company. This is why we have forcefully reiterated, and will continue to do so, the need for emergency measures on energy costs, starting with transparency in price calculations and imposing all possible limits at the European level against financial influence and speculation." "I'm also thinking about the debate on price caps," he adds, "which I believe is still ongoing in Europe and which we hope will be implemented, because now we are truly at risk of running into difficulty. And this applies not only to energy-intensive companies, but to all businesses and, automatically, to consumers, who risk seeing their potential limited, with all the economic consequences that entails," he concludes.
