(Adnkronos) – "Icare 2026 is a conference designed for those who care for people. Hence the question arose: why not also care for those who care for others? We wanted to focus on the profession, addressing new topics but also aspects that may seem less important, but which actually have a concrete impact on the working lives of our professionals.

This year, for the first time, enrollment in the Anesthesia and Resuscitation specialty reversed a negative trend and registered a positive trend. We therefore sought to understand the reasons for this change and also created a space dedicated to the well-being of our anesthesiologists and resuscitators, with the aim of better understanding the factors that contribute to burnout, fatigue, and the difficulties they encounter at work.

We await the results of this initiative, which we will analyze at Icare next year." This was stated by Elena Giovanna Bignami, president of Siaarti, today at the opening of Icare 2026, the 80th national congress of the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care, taking place at the Allianz MiCo in Milan until October 24.

“We've also set up a dedicated space for children, allowing anesthesiologists and resuscitators who are parents to attend the conference with their children,” adds Bignami. “We've provided specialized staff to look after the children, so that parents can follow the conference proceedings with peace of mind.

The goal is to allow both parents to participate, without one of them necessarily having to give up, as unfortunately still often happens to mothers, to take care of their children."

"The key words are sustainability, environmental awareness, and innovation," clarifies Siaarti President. "We want to convey a concrete message that translates into practical initiatives. The core themes remain those that define our discipline: anesthesia, resuscitation, pain management, and intensive care medicine. We will therefore address the various aspects of care through sessions dedicated to the main clinical areas. This year, we also wanted to experiment with a different organizational approach, creating sessions with clinical pathways based on real-life cases to guide participants from start to finish and represent all areas of our discipline, with input from relevant specialists. The goal is to offer a useful, concrete conference that fosters dialogue between different fields of expertise, while keeping quality care and patient care at its core."

The program also includes "in-depth discussions on the clinical aspects of sustainability," Bignami explains. "For example, we will address the topic of drug selection in anesthesia and seek to understand how new technologies and artificial intelligence can concretely contribute to making clinical practice more sustainable. These are issues that require in-depth analysis and the contribution of competent professionals. Therefore, we will address them by involving specialists who directly work in these areas. It may seem like a simple gesture, but we believe it is important that even a conference dedicated to anesthesia and resuscitation contribute to greater environmental awareness. For example, we have provided special panels and systems for recycling materials. For us, it is essential that sustainability becomes an integral part of the professional culture and activities of our scientific community."
